“The Oil and Energy Committee got a copy of the report that pointed out that Iraq is losing 40 billion $ annually due to the power crisis , which affected the overall economic fields ,” The decision maker of the committee , Qasim Muhammad told “Shafaq News “.
“The report stressed that the economic movement has been affected including petrochemical industries, private industry companies and other factories of the private sector as a result of electrical energy crisis”.
“The Ministry of Electricity says that Iraq needs 16 thousand MW to reach self-sufficiency, and this is not true as Iraq need about 30 thousand megawatts to return its factories to work again,” he added.
Iraq suffered a shortage of electricity since the beginning of 1990, and increased hours of rationing electricity after 2003 in Baghdad and the provinces due to the outdated of the stations, in addition to sabotage attacks on electric facilities over the past years.
