This agreement came as a response to the great desire of Iraqis to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran and see its civilization, heritage and nature and visit the shrine of Imam Ali al-Ritha (PBUH), and that will generate a new possibility of Iraqis’ travel to Iran.

According to the official’s announcement of the both countries, about two million Iraqis visited Iran in the past year as one million Iranians have also visited Iraq.

Due to the proximity distance of the northern and southern Iraqi cities including Baghdad , Najaf , Karbala and Basra cities with border crossings with Iran, ranging from half an hour to 3 hours , Iraqis travelers can reach easily to the border crossings with Iran.
