Shafaq News/ The head of exploration at the National Iranian Oil Company, Saleh Hindi announced on Wednesday, the discovery of a huge gas field in the onshore areas south of Iran, according to "Fars agency ".

The field is 3900 meters underground and contains gas for the population of Tehran, which has a population of 15 million, for the next 16 years, the official was quoted.

Hindi did not provide any details, saying only that the discovery of the field was made after nearly one year of research in southern areas, adding that the general manager of the National Oil Company will soon announce the discovery and provide more details.

Iran is one of the most important countries in the field of energy globally, accounting for 27% of the world's oil and gas reserves, 9% of oil reserves and 18% of natural gas reserves.
