"The financial situation of the province is very difficult, there is a problem in the payment of some departments and municipal especially salaries, due to the financial crisis experienced by the federal government,” The head of the Legal Committee of the Council , Hussein al-Issawi told “Shafaq News”.

Issawi said that "last Wednesday, there was a demonstration for a number of the popular crowd in Najaf province in front of the council’s building to demand overdue salaries for four months, the Council is not the party responsible for payment of salaries, the federal government is the one responsible for it , but they wanted a governmental entity to deliver their demands."

Iraq is facing a financial crisis after a sharp decline in the sale of oil prices in world markets that so far prevented it from preparing its fiscal budget for 2015.

The price drop in global markets comes after Saudi Arabia undertook a sharp decline in the official selling price of crude going to Asia and the United States last week.

Iraq relies 95% on oil in the annual general budget, while the industrial sector projects are still not eligible to be a main source of the Iraqi imports because of its exposure to neglect over the past 10 years.
