Shafaq News / A citizen was killed and a child was injured, on Sunday evening, in a shooting accident that took place in a ceremony in Kirkuk Governorate.

A security source told Shafaq News agency that the victim's father fired indiscriminately celebrating his son's engagement in Hawija district, south of Kirkuk; only for a bullet to settle in his son's body and kill him instantly. Another child was injured in the accident.

The phenomenon of gunfire from light and medium weapons in Iraq has become a widespread tribal and popular tradition; despite the fact that it causes dozens of deaths annually. There are no official statistics for the casualties of such deads, but deaths on such occasions is not uncommon anymore.

Those actions can be attributed to the uncontrolled proliferation of arms and the weak security services in some governorates.
