Shafaq News / The police of Dhi Qar Governorate announced on Saturday, that its police chief was injured by stone throwing by protesters in a southern governorate.

A statement by the police leadership stated that it and the operations leadership agreed with - the activist - Dr. Alaa al-Rikabi and a number of peaceful demonstrators, to open an alternative road for the passage of emergency cases instead of the closed international road.

The statement added, "In the meantime, a state of chaos and exposure to the police from the escapees resulted in the injury of the police chief and a number of police officers after they were exposed to stones."

The statement said, "There is no intention of Dhi Qar police to use violence against their protesting brothers or to break up the sit-in by force and there are no forces coming from outside the province, and there were no injuries recorded among the demonstrators."

Dhi Qar Police Command denied the arrest of Dr. Alaa Al-Rikabi, and confirmed that "he is present with the operations commander and the police chief to meet to discuss the best ways to organize the demonstrations and not to affect the general traffic situation, as there is no validity to raise the alert status (C) and there is no preparedness, things are normal and there is joint cooperation between Dhi Qar police and demonstrators to perpetuate the civil peace.
