Shafaq News / The resigned Prime Minister, General Commander of the Armed Forces, Adel Abdul-Mahdi decided to inform Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Al-Kadhimi of all the files that the government will discuss with the American side.

The semi-official newspaper "Al-Sabah" quoted in its issue on Thursday, the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Abdel Karim Khalaf, as saying that the decision was intended to be the Prime Minister-designate fully aware of all the topics that will be discussed with the United States to follow up and take the necessary steps regarding it after the formation of the new government. .

Khalaf added that Iraq is currently studying all the files that will be discussed with the United States of America and discussing them with the various parties concerned with these files to present them to the Prime Minister before the start of negotiations, noting that the files are not limited to the security side but also related to the strategic relationship between the two countries, as they include economic, political as well as cultural areas established within the Strategic Framework Agreement.

Washington and Baghdad will hold at mid of next June a strategic dialogue to decide on the future presence of American forces in Iraq, which the Iraqi parliament rejects.

Relations between the two allies have been tense since a series of attacks on US interests in Iraq at the end of 2019, in which pro-Iranian factions were involved. As relation deteriorated even more after the killing of the Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and an Iraqi official who was accompanying him in an American air strike in Baghdad in early January.

The Iraqi parliament formally voted to demand the withdrawal of US forces present in the country as part of an international coalition to fight ISIS.
