Shafaq News / The resigned Prime Minister, Adel Abdul-Mahdi sent a message to the Iraqi parliament on Wednesday, in which he called for the need to accelerate granting confidence to the transitional government headed by its commissioner, Mohammed Allawi at the same time, urging them to resort to what he called constitutional solutions in case the council failed in its mission to form that government.
"I submitted my resignation on 11/29/2019 and it was accepted by the distinguished parliament, and here we are in mid-February 2020, i.e. two and a half months later, and no new government has been formed. It was constitutionally supposed to appoint a new candidate during 15 days from the date of my resignation, we were very late from the appointment, and assignment took place only at the beginning of February when Mr. Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi was assigned, which indicates the crisis of the political process, but rather the crisis of the powers and constitutional institutions entrusted with this matter.
"We are optimistic about the mandate and do our best to support him to succeed in his endeavors, including this open letter and its implications that we have conveyed to political leaders, as we know the many difficulties that everyone faces. The constitutional deadline of 30 days to give the confidence of the parliament to members of the new government and its ministerial platform expires o the 2nd of March 2020. Therefore, I send this message before the constitutional deadline expires to my brothers and sisters from the people's representatives to warn of the danger of entering a new vacuum due to the delay in forming the new government, instead of expediting the formation of it so that this government can carry out its tasks assigned to it, including early elections as soon as possible. "
He called "the political blocs, parliament, public opinion and influencers in decision-making in our country to move forward in facilitating the mission of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to form his government and overcome serious and artificial obstacles in front of him", explaining that "the lack of success in achieving this and the failure of political forces to solve this decisive file, almost 3 months after the government's resignation, may expose the country to a more serious crisis, as it will be incorrect and inappropriate to continue bearing responsibilities after the date of 2 March 2020, and I will have no choice but to resort to the solutions stipulated in the constitution or the internal system of the Council of Ministers. My goal is to make the next government succeed and stop the constitutional violations that work against the interest of the country and its constitutional democratic system”.
