Shafaq News / Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi inaugurated on Wednesday Freedom (Al-Huriya) Bridge in Mosul, while attributing the occurrence of "previous disasters" in the country due to Islamic State (ISIS) invasion of northern and western Iraq as well as corruption and mismanagement.
After the rehabilitation, Al-Kadhimi opened Al-Huriya Bridge, located on Tigris River, Shafaq News Agency’s reporter said.
Al-Huriya Bridge is the second strategic bridge to be fully rehabilitated out of the five bridges destroyed in the war against ISIS, while the fourth and fifth bridges returned to work as rehabilitating the third bridge is still ongoing.
Al-Kadhimi had arrived this morning to Mosul city on 6th anniversary of its invasion by ISIS in 2014, and the security leaders in the province. met upon his arrival
Al-Kadhimi said, during his meeting with the security leaders that, "Citizens must be protected and what happened in 2014 should not be repeated”.
He added, according to a statement from his office that "all components of the Iraqi people have participated in the liberation of Mosul and we made victory at the end by our heroic forces, we are facing great challenges and they are able to overcome them”.
It is noteworthy that ISIS had imposed control on areas estimated at two thirds of the area of Iraq in mid-2014, after which Iraqi forces backed by the international coalition led by the United States of America launched a military campaign that lasted for three years to expel the extremist organization from those areas.
