Shafaq News / The liberated cities alliance (Al-Mudon AL-Muharara alliance in Arabic) headed by Khamis Al-Khanjar accused today an "unnamed" Sunni bloc of taking over the ministries of the Sunni component in the government of Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, while announcing his non-participation in the government.
"The liberated cities alliance was supposed to have at least two ministries in Al-Kadhimi’s government, but there is a Sunni bloc that has seized six ministerial portfolios designated for the Sunni component," the alliance ‘s representative, Hoda Jarallah, told Shafaq News.
"The alliance will not vote on any candidate in the ministerial cabinet having financial or administrative corruption suspicions, even if the candidate is from the Sunni component."
“The alliance does not have any representation in the cabinet, but it supports the government that Prime Minister-designate Mustafa al-Kadhimi will present to the parliament ,” Jarallah added.
The Iraqi parliament announced yesterday, Monday, that the special session will be held to consider giving confidence to the government of Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Al-Kadhimi next Wednesday evening.
The constitutional deadline before Al-Kadhimi will end on 9 of May 2020 amid the expansion of opponents to pass his government in the past few days, after he was initially supported by the vast majority of political blocs.
If Al-Kadhimi obtains confidence from the parliament, the new government will succeed the government of Prime Minister ,Adel Abdul Mahdi, who resigned in early December 2019 under pressure from popular protests calling for the departure and accountability of the political class accused of corruption and waste of state funds.
