Shafaq News / Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Adnan al-Zorfi revealed on Thursday the foreign policy that he will adopt in his next government.

He tweeted "We will adopt a foreign policy based on the principle of (Iraq First) and stay away from regional and international conflicts that make Iraq an arena for settling accounts ."

He pointed out that "the top Iraqi interests will be the compass that determines the direction of that policy."

Al-Zorfi added that " he seeks to open up to all the neighboring countries, the region, and the general international community, without prejudice to the terms and requirements of preserving the independence and sovereignty of Iraq."

On Wednesday, Al-Zorfi met the ambassadors of the permanent members of the Security Council, and discussed with them the formation of the Iraqi government and the developments taking place in the region and the world.

Al-Zorfi has less than 30 days to present his cabinet formation to parliament to give its confidence, but his mission will not be easy because he is facing rejection from prominent Shiite forces close to Iran, at the head of which is the Al-Fatah coalition led by Hadi al-Amiri and the State of Law coalition led by Nuri al-Maliki.

The Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Adnan Al-Zorfi warned on Monday, from Iraq’s exposure to "international sanctions" during the coming period, while stressing that he will only proceed without the agreement of all parties and components.
