Allawi tweeted that " using excessive violence against peaceful demonstrators confirms that the force charged with protecting them is impotent or complicit, and it is clear that the goal is to try to disperse the demonstrations."

Allawi called "regular army forces to take responsibility for protecting demonstrators from militia attacks, and I call on demonstrators to withstand, for you are making history and victory now."
