Shafaq News/ The Iraqi artist , Sami Abdul Hamid died on Sunday at the age of 91.

The artist , Sami Abdul Hamid is a writer, actor and director was born in Samawah in Iraq in 1928 , he was an experienced professor in Dramatic Sciences at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baghdad University.

He holds a law degree and a diploma from the Royal Academy of Drama Arts in London and a Master of Dramatic Sciences from the University of Oregon, USA.

He is the president of the Arab Theatrical Union, a member of the Iraqi Theater Committee, a member of the Iraqi Center for Theater and a former head of Iraqi artists.

He wrote a number of books related to theatrical art including: the art of diction, the art of acting and the art of directing.

He translated several books on theatrical art, including: the essential elements of directing Alexander Dean play, the movement design of Oxford, Brooke's empty place.

He wrote dozens of researches, the most important are the Arabic features in Shakespeare Theater, the way to find a distinct Arabic theater, classical Arabic and theatrical presentation, contemporary trends in the Arab theater.

He participated in several theatrical festivals as a director, director or guest, including the Carthage Festival, the Jordanian Theater Festival, the Spring Festival Theater in Morocco, the Conversano Festival in Italy, the Arabian Gulf Universities Festival and the Sharjah Theater Days.

It is worth mentioning that he received many honor awards including: the coronation award from the Carthage Festival, the Tunisian Medal of Culture from the President of the Republic of Tunisia, Innovation Award from the Iraqi Ministry of Culture and Information, Best Actor Award in Baghdad Festival for the First Arab Theater.

His most famous theatrical works include: Zinj Revolution, Gilgamesh Epic, Bernarda House, Alba, Antigone, the Key, Waiting for Godot, Othello in the Kitchen, Arab Hamlet, al-Zunouj, Hairy Monkey.
