Shafaq News / Civil sources reported on Tuesday that an unidentified armed man was assassinated, while two soldiers were wounded by an ISIS attack in Diyala Governorate.
A local source told Shafaq News agency, "Unidentified gunmen killed a civilian in front of his house in the Al-Askari neighborhood, in the center of the Abi Saida district (30 km northeast of Baqubah).”
He added that “the Gunmen escaped, while a security force transferred the body to the judicial medicine and opened an investigation to reveal the accident circumstances.”
The Abi Saida district witnessed several Ashaeri conflicts in years, which caused the displacement of tens of families and the killing and wounding of hundreds of civilians.
The district is also attacked by ISIS from time to time, as it includes orchards that are used by the militants for launching attacks.
In a separate incident, a security source reported that two soldiers were wounded by ISIS militants on the outskirts of Khanaqin district, 105 km northeast of Baqubah.
The source told Shafaq News agency that "ISIS operatives attacked an army position in the village of Sherik, north of Khanaqin, causing the injury of two soldiers”, noting that the militants fled after the army forces responded to the attackers.
The source added that "security reinforcements arrived at the scene in anticipation of any possible attack or attack."
It’s noteworthy that Khanaqin is witnessing a high tempo of security breaches, the withdrawal of the Peshmerga forces in 2017.
