Shafaq News/ The parliamentary security and defense committee revealed on Thursday the truth behind the Iraqi National Security Adviser, Faleh al-Fayyad contracting with Russia on air defense missiles.
"The visit of the Iraqi national security advisor, Faleh al-Fayyad, the head of the Popular Mobilization Commission to Russia is very important, which is not his first visit to Moscow," committee member ,Ali al-Ghanimi told Shafaq News,” the aim of the visit was to discus fighting terrorism and tracking down wanted terrorists."
Al-Ghanimi said that " Iraq and Russia have large security projects, especially with regard to the air force and weapons systems," stressing that "the goal of Fayyad visit to Russia is not to conclude new arms deals with Russia, even if so Fayyad was accompanied by a number of Iraqi figures competent in the armament field".
The Security and Defense Committee in the Iraqi parliament revealed on Saturday, the existence of Iraqi-Russian dialogues to buy S-300 system from Moscow.
"There are ongoing talks and delegations to Russia to contract Aviation Air Defense or air defense weapons, but there are influences by the United States on the purchase of weapons from Iraq by other countries," committee chairman ,Mohammad Reza al-Haidari told Shafaq News.
Haidari explained that "the United States of America did not apply the terms of the security agreement, relating to the protection of Iraqi airspace, especially with the presence of serious and significant violations as shelling Iraqi weapons stores, which are stockpiles to fight ISIS terrorists."
He stressed that "Iraq at the present time must accelerate the contract with Russia to buy advanced air defense weapons, if Baghdad contracted with Moscow on the S-300 system, four battalions are sufficient to cover all of Iraq and this deal is equivalent to the F16 deal, especially now we don’t need such planes. As we do not intend to attack any country."
