Shafaq News / The Iraqi High Commission For Human Rights (IHCHR) revealed, on Sunday, the number of "missing" people from the Sunni areas liberated from Islamic State "ISIS", after an order issued by Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi about "the kidnapped and the disappeared people", calling on him to work to uncover their fate and liberate those left who are still alive.
“The last statistic of the absentees number from the liberated areas reached more than 8000 people," noting that "this number was recorded officially, after complaints submitted by their families,” A member of the Commission, Anas Al-Azzawi, told Shafaq News Agency.
Al-Azzawi explained, "There are a lot of families, who have not submitted any complaints until this moment," adding that "the number of absentees is much greater than the official mentioned number."
“Some of these absentees may have been killed and buried in tombs that have not been revealed yet, and yet their fate must be revealed,” Al-Azzawi added.
The Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi ordered during his visit to the Ministry of Interior in Baghdad earlier on Sunday, to expedite the disclosure of the fate of the kidnapped and the disappeared people.
It should be noted that Al-Kadhiimi ordered, last Thursday, the formation of a fact-finding committee on the existence of secret government prisons in which demonstrators were being held in.
