Shafaq News/ The Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights (IHCHR) documented on Saturday the injury of demonstrators in Basra province.
The IHCHR said in a statement received by Shafaq News, " IHCHR has monitored through its monitoring teams the events in Basra province, which led to clashes between security forces and demonstrators at Umm Qasr port and the fall of 120 injured who are in the hospital of Umm Qasr because of the use of direct tear gas by security forces towards the demonstrators and firing live bullets to disperse them. "
"While stressing the right of peaceful demonstration, the Commission calls on all demonstrators to commit themselves in places of demonstrations not to endanger public facilities and property, as ports are the most important economic resources of the Iraqi people, and damaging or them will negatively affect all the rights of the Iraqi people," the statement said” which requires the full cooperation between the demonstrators and security forces to protect them and not to disrupt their actions and that may have a negative impact on ships that will not arrive Iraq because of the dangers posed to ports and causing great economic losses in Iraq.
IHCHR also called "security forces to take the utmost restraint in dealing with the demonstrators and from the use of weapons that cause physical harm against the demonstrators."
