Shafaq News / The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced on Tuesday that dozens of countries in the Middle East and Central Asia have contacted the fund, seeking financial support to counter the impact of the Corona virus on the economy.
Jihad Azour, director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department, said, "The challenge will be horrific especially for fragile and torn countries like Iraq, Sudan and Yemen."
The International Monetary Fund had previously expected that the "Covid-19" epidemic would have a severe impact on the global economy.
The head of the International Monetary Fund's Policy and Strategic Review division, Martin Muelweisen, said last week that the main goal of governments should be to limit the spread of the virus in a manner that creates confidence that the economic shock will be temporary.
