Iraq addresses NAM on the importance of cooperation to combat terrorism
The session was opened by a speech of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad , Javad Zarif, president of NAM summit then later the presidency of the Conference and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria , Ramtan Lamamra delivered speeches represented by the Secretary -General of the United Nations and a video message from Ban Ki-moon to the Conference , the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation , the Organization of African Unity and the President of Bolivia.
Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs , Hoshyar Zebari delivered a speech in the first session of the conference in which he stressed the importance of joint action for the NAM countries to activate the organization and renewal mechanisms of action to achieve the objectives which was created for .
He pointed to the liberation of Iraq from the restrictions and provisions of Chapter VII and restore it to its sovereignty and independence , he also briefed the conference on Iraq's commitment to the adoption of democracy for peace , development and the commitment of all the deadlines in the conduct of elections , the success of the recent elections in 30 quarters popular participation , competitive spirit of democracy and the supervision of Arabs and local international observers .
He also stressed in his speech the importance of cooperation of NAM countries to combat terrorism, which is threatening many countries and communities . As well as in cooperation in the areas of cross-border crimes, especially in the areas of drug and human smuggling.
Participants in the conference were about 80 ministers and the head of the regional figures representing many of States observer.
The most important files that are included in the agenda of the session are; terrorism , transnational crime , the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction , illegal immigration , racism and hatred for Islam as well as the defense of the right of peoples to self-determination .
The Iraqi delegation included head of organizations and the head of the Arab and Iraq's ambassador to Algeria .
Iraq has presided a meeting of the Ministerial Conference of the 17th Non-Aligned Movement held in Algeria after it was elected as vice president by the Office for the Coordination of movement in New York .
Minister of Foreign Affairs , Hoshyar Zebari Chaired, the session on the first day of the conference and managed the ministerial meeting which was attended by 120 member states in the movement , in the presence of 17 other supervising states.
