Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Minister of Transportation, Abdullah al-Laibi said on Tuesday that he had given assurances to the American deputy ambassador to Iraq, Brian McFeeters, allowing the opening of a direct air link between Baghdad and Washington.
He said in a press statement that " at the Cabinet he received Office Deputy US Ambassador to Iraq ,Brian McFeeters and his delegation, discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries and expand joint work in all areas of transportation."
He stressed the need to activate air transportation between the two countries by launching a direct air link between Baghdad and Washington to strengthen ties between the two sides in the transport sector on one hand.
He added "This line can contribute to the service of the Iraqi community living in the United States," pointing out that "Iraqi Airways is contracted with " Boeing "American company and has strong aircraft to enable them to travel long distances."
"The Iraqi Ministry of Transportation is committed to the security precautions for airlines that land in the United States, and that Iraq is ready to apply the standards and security required necessities in all its details ,” he said.
