Shafaq News / The Iraqi Foreign Ministry issued a position on Sunday, on raising the rainbow "gay flag" by the European Union (EU) embassy and the British and Canadian embassies in Baghdad.
“The ministry denounce the fact that the EU and other foreign missions operating in Iraq raise the flag of homosexuality in its headquarters because of it is contrary to the high moral principles and values respected by all divine religions as well as its contradiction with the values, morals and social norms of our country as well as provoking religious feelings and meanings " the Ministry statement received by Shafaq News agency stated.
"On this occasion, we remind all the missions operating in Iraq to adhere to the laws in force in the country, and to protect the diplomatic norms and values prevailing in Iraqi society.”
The EU mission published on its Facebook page: In partnership with the Canadian embassy and the British embassy in Iraq, we join today (Sunday) in Baghdad European Union missions around the world in raising the rainbow flag to celebrate the World Day against homophobia and sexual transformation and highlighting the rights of LGBT / gay and bisexual / transgender people.
This move have faced a major political rejection, as the blocs and parties issued statements of condemnation and demanded that a memorandum of protest be submitted to the European Union mission and the ambassadors of Canada and Britain, as deputies demanded that the mission headquarters to be closed and its chief to be replaced.
