A statement from the prime minister's office stated last Friday that Nuri al-Maliki agreed to send the salaries of the staff of Kurdistan Region for last February on condition to pump oil from Kurdistan fields in favor of the federal government.
Al-Maliki hold the Kurds and the Presidency of the parliament , the responsibility for the delay in approving the country's federal budget for the current year and thus delayed the arrival of the employees' salaries to the region.
“Prime Minister , Nuri al-Maliki confirmed that he is willing to pay the salaries of the staff of the region on condition that the region must deliver the oil to settle any oil dispute between the region and the center but until now it has not been resolved yet ,” Nabi told “Shafaq News”.
“The federal government used to pay the salaries of the region’s employees thorough the regional allocations of 17 % that reaches the region annually from the proportion of the federal budget,” he added.
Baghdad has spent the salaries of the staff of Kurdistan for last January, which has already provoked resentment of the staff who organized protests in Sulaimaniyah and threatened to go on strike .
Baghdad waved later that it will not give the salaries of the subsequent months if Kurdistan did not export 400 thousand barrels per day of oil through “SOMO” state-ownedcompany.
