Shafaq News / Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) confirmed on Monday, its support for a candidate who obtains a Shiite consensus for prime minister’s position, calling on Shiite forces to unify their position on a candidate to head the government.
The bloc's deputy, Ahmed Al-Saffar, told Shafaq News, "KDP has no problem or objection to any figure that the Shiite forces deem appropriate for the prime minister’s post, given that the position belongs to the Shiite component."
He added that "the Kurdish parties do not interfere in the issue of choosing a candidate for prime minister’s post," calling at the same time Shiite forces to "unify their position in light of the current crisis and choose their candidate to form the next government."
Concerning al-Zorfi, al-Saffar said, "According to my personal opinion, the Prime Minister-designate possesses extensive economic and financial information, in addition to his administrative experience, as he was governor of Najaf earlier, this requires the Shiite forces to give room for al-Zorfi to form the government in the next period until the holding of the elections.”
