Shafaq News / Nuri al-Maliki’s State of Law coalition called on Saturday, to dissolve the Iraqi parliament, describing it as “powerless” in front of the challenges currently facing Iraq.

"Dissolving the Iraqi parliament is through two methods, either by an absolute majority voting of parliament members, at the request of one-third of its members, and the second method is at the request of the Prime Minister with the approval of the President of the Republic, without a parliament voting, as dissolving the parliament is either to be legislative or executive,” leader in the coalition, Saad al-Matlabi, told Shafaq News Agency.

Al-Muttalabi indicated that "it is better now to dissolve the Iraqi parliament and go to the early elections, two months after the dissolution of the parliament," noting that "the current parliament can’t solve the executive, security, economic and epidemic violations, and for this it must be dissolved to move towards early elections."

The position of the State of Law coalition comes after moves revealed in earlier by Saairun coalition headed by Muqtada al-Sadr, indicating that there was a trend among some MPs to dismiss Speaker of Parliament Muhammad Al-Halbousi from his position, considering that Al-Halbousi “failed” in conducting parliament sessions and interrogating the former Prime Minister ,Adel Abdul-Mahdi.
