Shafaq News / More than 170 deputies collected signatures to issue a decision that would require the submission of an independent candidate to head the next government, and from Iraqi citizenship holders only and has not receive any position since 2003.

On Sunday, the Iraqi President Barham Saleh sent a query to the parliament regarding the largest parliamentary bloc, which is responsible for submitting a candidate for prime ministry.

Soon the Presidency of the Iraqi parliament revealed that the largest number within the parliament had not yet been registered.

A senior official in the Presidency told Shafaq News that "the dispute of the largest bloc emerged after the announcements of the results of the parliamentary elections in 2018, as everyone was busy in the struggle to choose the prime minister at the time, and no bloc submitted an official request to consider it as the biggest bloc."

The source indicated that "the parliamentary blocs neglected this, after it reached the resigned Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, in a compatible manner, without the need for the largest bloc and for this reason, no bloc made an official request in this regard."

Blocs and parties represented in Al-Fateh coalition in the Iraqi parliament, the second largest bloc in the Iraqi parliament, are seeking to put the name of Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, a leader in the Islamic Dawa party led by Nuri al-Maliki to fill the position, which is rejected by " Towards Reform " Alliance led by Muqtada al-Sadr and the demonstrators, in addition to the Supreme Shiite reference that has previously requested the candidacy of a person who has not held any government post after 2003.

Al-Naser, Wisdom and Sunni Movements are opposed to nominating a candidate from within the political process for the position of prime minister, preferring a candidate who is consistent with the demands of the demonstrators.

The features of the new candidate to assume the post of prime minister in the next government was not clear yet whose features have not yet been determined, and whether it was a transitional government for a specified period, or a government that would complete the term of the resigned government.

The 15-day deadline neared to end under which President Barham Salih could constitutionally appoint a candidate to form a government in accordance with the constitution.
