Shafaq News/ Jamal al-Mohammadawi, an MP in Basra province, revealed the number of cancer patients in the factories of the General Company for Iron and Steel in Basra province, and called for lifting their injustice and treat those affected by the former regime.
According to a press release, MP Mohammadawi said that he addressed the Prime Minister about cancer patients at the General Company for Iron and Steel in Basra as a result of their work during the former regime period , where they were forced to cut iron contaminated with radiation from the remnants of war and after a period of time cases of cancer diseases appeared, where the number of affected people reached (127), of whom nearly (64) died and the rest suffer from a severe lack of treatment and unable to buy it because it is so expensive.
Al-Mohammadawi demanded "to consider them as harmed by the past regime because the security apparatus of the regime was forcing them to work to smelt contaminated iron with radiation as death and arrest was the fate of those who refrain from working. .
He also called for "compensating all living and deceased patients as a result of the disease or those who suffer from material and moral compensation to suit the magnitude of the damage.
