Shafaq News / The electricity carrier from Iran in Diyala, Diyala-Mersad line has become out of service due to bombing several towers north of Diyala, according to a local source .

Diyala-Mersad line coming from Iran had stopped serving after detonating 3 carrier towers between Diyala and Kirkuk borders, the source told Shafaq News.

He added that the towers came under fire and explosive devices by unknown persons without accusing ISIS of being behind the incident.

The energy transmission towers that extend from Iran to Diyala to Baghdad are subjected to improvised explosive attacks, amid popular and official demands to form forces to protect the energy towers.

Diyala imports electricity via Kermanshah-Diyala line, which supplies the national system with a capacity of 400 megawatts, in addition to Sarbel Zahab-Khanaqin line, which supplies the national system with a capacity of 132 megawatts, while the governorate needs an estimate of more than 550 megawatts of electricity.

It is noteworthy that Iraq suffers from a shortage of electrical energy supplies since 1990, after the United Nations imposed a blockade on Iraq, and the problem worsened after 2003, as the hours of power outages increased to about 20 hours per day, which the increased reliance of the people on small and private power generators.
