Shafaq News / Adnan Al-Zorfi announced on Thursday, that he is stepping down from forming the Iraqi government, giving way to Intelligence Chief Mustafa Al-Kathemi to form the ministerial portfolio.

Al-Zorfi’s failure to form the government came after Shi’ite and Sunni forces agreed as well as Kurdistan region, to nominate the head of the intelligence service, Mustafa al-Kathemi, to form the next government.

On Wednesday, Kurdistan Region and the Alliance of Iraqi Forces led by Speaker of Parliament Muhammad Al-Halbousi and the National Alliance led by Iyad Allawi announced Al-Kathimi's succession to the resigned Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi.

Al-Zorfi said in a press conference, "I feel sorry for what the entrusted mandate ended up with, I apologies first to everyone who placed his trust in us, waiting for us to achieve what everyone aspires to."

He added, "I was keen to move forward in carrying out the task entrusted to me with great honor and high responsibility, placing before me a sacred primary goal, which is to save Iraq and return to its rightful path, as a stable and influential country in its Arab, Islamic and global surroundings."

Al-Zorfi added, "I had established in the past weeks a real beginning for an Iraqi policy based on productive and fruitful economic partnerships with countries of the world, organizing the work of the international coalition forces, scheduling their withdrawal and building the capabilities of the armed forces," saying that "his apology for continuing to commission is due to preserving the unity of Iraq and its best interests. "

He explained that "my national message arrived and carries with it what oversees my political and professional history, when I worked from the first day, whether stated in the letter of assignment or the government curriculum to provide an economic rescue vision that raises the suffering of the people , eliminates corruption , opens horizons of international isolation and protects the national economy from International sanctions and hold accountable the killers of the demonstrators and criminals "

He added, "I offer my appreciation to the members of the parliament who supported my candidacy , assignment and my announced economic program, and they endured all threats that carried suspicious statements.

He said, "I will leave the commissioning experience while I am comfortable because I and who worked with me have worked hard with the support of some political forces and good people to move our country to the shore of safety, stability and prosperity."
