Shafaq News / The Iraqi parliament has set a date for a special session to vote on the new government headed by Muhammad Allawi which will be next Thursday.

An informed source told Shafaq News that the decision was taken after a meeting of the Presidency of the Parliament.

Allawi was chosen to head the prospective government, based on an unspoken agreement between Sadr and his rival, leader of Al-Fateh Alliance , Hadi al-Amiri.

According to the constitution, the parliament’s session to give confidence in the government is held at the request of 50 deputies, the president of the republic, the president of the parliament or the prime minister, including the resigned prime minister.

For the government to obtain the confidence of Parliament, an absolute majority (50 +1 +1) is required for the number of members present (not the total number).

Last Wednesday, Allawi announced that he had completed the cabinet, which he said consisted of competent independent ministers.
