Shafaq News / A number of governorates, including the Iraqi capital, Baghdad have witnessed on Sunday an escalation in protests calling for providing job services, improving life and service, and holding corrupt local and governmental officials accountable.

Najaf

An official security source told Shafaq News Agency that the security forces in charge of protecting the local government building in the province fired tear gas at the protestors in an attempt to disperse them and prevent them from storming the building.

The source added that some of Najaf elders are interfering to persuade the governor to submit his resignation but the latter refused.

A security source said earlier today that "angry demonstrators are trying to storm Najaf governorate building amid a demand to dismiss the governor of Najaf.

Dhi Qar

Witnesses said that the protestors of Al- Habboubi sit-in / Nasiriyah square went to Dhi Qar Court of Appeal after the deadline for holding the killers of the demonstrators accountable.

Babil

Dozens of professors and employees at the University of Babil have broken the curfew and protest because of the government's intention to cut their salaries, according to Shafaq News reporter.

Hundreds of newly appointed Ministry of Cultures’ employees on the permanent staff demonstrated in front of the Finance Ministry in central Baghdad, demanding to pay their unpaid six-month salaries.

The demonstrators appealed the new Minister of Culture and the relevant authorities of the Ministry of Finance to solve their problem and release their salaries delayed for several months.
