An informed source told “Shafaq News", Lavrov arrived in Baghdad airport and was welcomed by his Iraqi counterpart, Hoshyar Zebari and a number of officials.
The source noted that “Lavrov is scheduled to meet Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki and other senior Iraqi political leaders , noting that he will discuss with them a number of issues of common interest, notably the Syrian crisis”.
Iraq shares borders with Syria that extends for about 600 km, which is bordering Anbar and Nineveh provinces from the Iraqi side .
For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement briefed by "Shafaq News", that “ Lavrov meetings will be in Baghdad and will focus on activating cooperation between Russia and Iraq in politics , trade , economic and humanitarian fields.
It added that the two sides would discuss during the visit , large bilateral projects in oil and gas fields and electricity production , which is being developed and implemented currently , as well as discuss issues of improving bilateral cooperation mechanisms .
