The Iraqi president’s move comes after the failure of the main Shiite blocs in the Iraqi parliament to agree on a candidate who has been accepted by the rising street since October 1 to demand early elections , enactment of a new electoral law, naming of a prime minister, hold accountability for those responsible for the bloodshed of demonstrators and trial corrupt people.

The leader in the alliance, Talaat Karim told Shafaq News, "So far, the name of a candidate has not been finalized, but this matter will be resolved in the coming hours or tomorrow by the political forces, if the political forces fail to do so again, the decision will be before President of the Republic Barham Salih next Saturday. "

Karim explained that, "The dialogues are still raging among the political forces without final settlement, but the competition now is between (Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi) and (Mustafa Al-Kathemi), perhaps the President of the Republic, Barham Salih surprises everyone and nominates an independent academic personality, if the political blocs fail to reach any satisfactory solutions and compromises. "

During the past few days, many names were discussed to assume the position of Prime Minister, most notably the director of the intelligence service, Mustafa Al-Kathemi, former Minister of Communications Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi and the advisor to the President of the Republic, who is close to the Sadrist movement, Ali Shukri.
