Shafaq News / " Alliance Towards Reforms " (Saairun in Arabic) close to the Sadrist movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr, said on Monday that its position on the government of Prime Minister-designate Mustafa al-Kadhimi will be taken in parliament.

“If Al-Kadhimi wants to gain the confidence of the parliament, the ministerial cabinet must be professional, efficient, and independent personalities far from party quotas, but some parties and political blocs are still holding on to quotas and looking for ministerial portfolios in the next government,” Jamal Fakher, the Alliance’s deputy, told Shafaq News,

"the position of (Saairun) bloc of the government of Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Al-Kadhimi will be in the parliament after informing the members of Parliament of the names of the candidates in the cabinet.

Yesterday, the National Coalition led by Iyad Allawi announced not voting for Mustafa Al-Kadhimi’s government, as a special session is scheduled to be held this week. The State of Law coalition led by Nuri al-Maliki - 26 seats - also declared not voting for Al-Kadhimi’s government.

The National Alliance bloc has 21 seats officially, before it was exposed to splits, and its members joined other blocs.

For the government to obtain the confidence of Parliament, an absolute majority (50% + 1) vote is required for the number of members present (not the total number) to grant confidence, but its chances in light of the escalating opposition seem difficult.
