Shafaq News/The leader of Sadr movement Moqtada al-Sadr called on Saturday the Iraqi government and its President ,Adel Abdul Mahdi to resign from their posts in the wake of the bloody protests in Baghdad and a number of predominantly Shiite provinces in the country.
Sadr said in a statement today that "if the demonstrations in the view of some are not a solution, sit-ins or strikes are not, is (holding on to power) a solution? While this government has no ability to end the suffering of the people and free them from the corruptors and provide decent living for them.
He added, "If the authority cannot repair what their predecessors have corrupted, there is no good in them or their predecessors, and if you want the people not to be killed or burnt, then you corrupt , stop your oppression”.
Sadr spoke about the demonstrators by saying "they are a group who wanted dignity , to live well and a homeland without corruption or spoilers, should they receive fire and being killed or good ."
"They are a group that has succeeded on pressuring the corrupt and forced them to retreat, do you not (Prime Minister) help them? to complete what you claim from the reform project?"
"It is enough for Iraq not to slip into civil war so that everything would end and the country be controlled by people who are corrupt and strange," he said.
"If I was accused of riding the wave as I had tried to reform before, today it is the responsibility of the great people and their wise men to ward off rabble-rousing immediately, otherwise regret will not be enough."
Sadr concluded his statement by saying, "Resign before being dismissed, or reformed before you are removed, otherwise there will be no escape”.
