Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Communications and Media Commission (CMC) responded on Thursday to the statement of the US Embassy in Baghdad, on the closure of television stations.
"CMC is surprised by the US embassy intervention on an internal Iraqi issue at a time when US officials are emphasizing support for Iraq's sovereignty and are interested in clarifying the following:
-The Communications and Media Commission is an independent constitutional body that operates under its own law and does not take orders from any other Iraqi institution as well as a foreign embassy.
- The measures taken recently by the Commission have been in accordance with objective monitoring of the speech of the channels and identify serious violations in the list of media discourse derived from the covenants and international conventions on freedoms, and based on a clear distinction between media freedom and its transformation into a platform to incite violence and disturb public order, directly or indirectly after many appeals and warnings for these channels.
- The Media and Communications Commission in accordance with its law, has the responsibility to support media freedom and help the media to provide a constructive speech, and in return protect society from the excessive exploitation of freedom that harm its security and stability.
