Shafaq News / The President of the Republic ,Barham Salih met today, Saturday, in the Vatican, Pope Francis.

During the meeting, the President of the Republic affirmed that the brotherhood and peaceful coexistence among Muslims, Christians and other sects is the only way to eliminate extremism in all its forms, indicating that terrorist crimes that affected all Iraqi components do not pertain to the tolerant teachings of the Islamic religion.

The President pointed out that resolving the crises that plague the region comes through dialogue and understanding, noting to the importance of strengthening efforts aimed at bringing peace and stability to the region.

He praised the positions of the Pope of the Vatican in urging unity and harmony among all Iraqis, calling to establishing security and peace, and coexistence between the followers of the divine religions and preventing further escalation regionally and internationally.

In turn, Pope Francis stressed the necessity of continuing to support the stability of Iraq, indicating the importance of prioritizing the language of dialogue , understanding and promoting peaceful coexistence to consolidate love, peace and moderation.

During the meeting, arrangements were made for the visit to be undertaken by the Pope to Iraq at a later time.
