Shafaq News / The President of the Iraqi Republic, Barham Salih received an invitation from his Iranian counterpart to visit Iran, and promised to meet it at an "appropriate time".

“President of the Republic Barham Salih received on Monday, a phone call from his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani during which he congratulated him on the occasion of the formation of the Iraqi government and the approaching Eid Al-Fitr,” a statement of the Presidency’s media, reported to Shafaq News Agency stated.

Rouhani invited the President of the Republic to visit Iran, and the latter promised to meet it at an appropriate time.

For his part, the Iraqi President thanked his Iranian counterpart for "this gesture that reflects the depth of relations between the two countries," expressing " his wishes for the Iranian people to achieve all the aspiration and prosperity."

During the call, ways of strengthening bilateral relations and developing joint cooperation horizons to serve the interests of the two neighboring peoples were discussed. It was stressed that "strengthening the security and sovereignty of Iraq is of great regional and international importance as it enhances the stability and safety of the peoples and countries of the region, as well as the importance of coordination to combat Corona pandemic and joint action to limit its spread in a way that guarantees the safety of the Iraqi, Iranian and whole people of the world. "

The two presidents also reviewed the most important "political developments in the region, and regional cooperation was emphasized in addition to ease tensions to establish security and peace in the region."
