Shafaq News / President of the Republic Barham Salih confirmed on Tuesday, that the Iraqi government has a duty to work to compensate the families of Anfal martyrs, and to seek to acknowledge Anfal crime as a crime of genocide.

Saleh said in a statement received by Shafaq News, on the occasion of the anniversary of the hideous Anfal crime, that "32 years have passed since   Anfal notorious crime ,a crime committed unjustly and aggressively by the Baathist regime, but the pain and tragedies of this inhuman crime are unforgettable, like the rest of the crimes of the dictatorial regime identified  with injustice, persecution and mass killing against the people of Kurdistan and the Iraqi people. "

He added that "the horrendous, notorious crime committed by Saddam regime 32 years ago, which it called" Al-Anfal “ is an evidence of the bloodiness of this regime and its contempt for the blood of Iraqis”.

Saleh added, "Although the perpetrators of Anfal crime have won their fair punishment, but we still have a lot to do to eliminate the consequences of Anfal and mass murder, it is known that most of the Iraqi people without discrimination, have become victims of the criminal policies of this regime, and for this reason it is our duty in the Iraqi government, with all its official institutions, to work to compensate the families of the martyrs, identify their remains and transfer them to their hometowns, work to develop and build their areas and advance them in all service, health, social, and economic aspects, and strive to acknowledge the world with Anfal crime as a mass genocide so that it is not allowed to be repeated again. "

The President of the Republic emphasized that "the Baathist regime used to consider all practices and ways to reach its objectives as legitimate, and events show that the Kurds have many tragedies with the Baathist regime, and we can say that Anfal shows the true ugly face of the Baathist regime's policy towards the Kurds."

He added, "This year, due to the spread of Corona pandemic, we have not had the opportunity, as required, to share with you the memory of losing loved ones, but their memory will remain alive in the hearts of every member of this country."

Meanwhile, Bashir Al-Haddad, deputy speaker of the Iraqi parliament, recalled the occasion by saying that "this tragedy and humanitarian catastrophe that translated its most dangerous pages from mass graves and sowed hatred, racism, hatred and criminality in its most terrible form against the people of Kurdistan by killing more than 182 thousand citizens in genocide and forced displacement and destruction of villages and districts in Kurdistan. "

He added that "the people of Kurdistan have made great sacrifices for the sake of their freedom and are still demanding their constitutional rights and establishing them through legislation, laws in force and binding decisions in application."

Al-Haddad called on the federal government to initiate and take serious steps to compensate the families of Anfal martyrs and all of the martyrs of Iraq.
