"will not talk about the military cooperation," and that Washington would not take "strategic decisions" without consultation with the Iraqis.

 The gunmen controlled large areas in northern Iraq during the past week, after the battles fought with Iraqi government forces.

A senior official at the State Department said referring to the talks between Iran and major powers over Tehran's nuclear program , seen by "Shafaq News", "We are open to dialogue with the Iranians, as we do with regional parties and other actors on the threat posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant group."

He added that "the issue was discussed a shortly with Iran on the sidelines of the meeting of the 5 +1 group. These discussions will not include military cooperation or strategic decisions on the future of Iraq without consultation with the Iraqi people."

He added: "We will be discussing how the Islamic state in Iraq and the Levant is a risk on many countries in the region, including Iran, and the need to support the inclusion , no exclusion in Iraq and to refrain from sectarian provocation”.

The official, who asked not to be named, said that discussions between the U.S. and Iran on Iraq occurred "outside the tripartite meeting" between officials of the United States, Iran and the European Union in Vienna, on Tehran's nuclear program.
