Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources, revealed on Sunday, the reality of the situation of Lake Razzazah, pointing that it is suffering from dread by very high rates.

The spokesman for the ministry, Aoun Diab, told Shafaq News that, "The information reported recently about Razzazah Lake is true, and this is the reality of the situation," noting that "the rain was stored in its proper position, the lake is closed and dead, so whoever enters it does not come out."

"According to the studies, no amounts of rain can be diverted to Razzazah, which is now out of service, except for those arriving from the desert rain," Diab said.

He added that "the water of Razzazah Lake depends on floods of rain, but we cannot provide water for it permanently, so the situation of the lake is very difficult," noting that "there are studies to find a way to address what is happening in Razzazah Lake."

Razzazah Lake is the second largest lake in Iraq that lies between Anbar and Karbala provinces, and draws its water from the Euphrates River, an area of about 1800 square kilometers.

The lake is also home to the important birds in Iraq and of the wetlands of international importance due to many aspects like tourism, religious, historical, economic, social and environmental.

In spite of an exceptional rainy season last winter, Al- Razzazah has recently witnessed the destruction of fish and aquaculture after the drought rate exceeded 90% along with significant pollution in the lake due to the diversion of heavy water pumps and sewage.
