Shafaq News / Erbil governor, the capital of Kurdistan Region, Firsat Sofi confirmed on Saturday that the civil defense firefighting teams could not help in extinguishing the repeated fires that hit the highlands of " Qarachogh " mountain range in Makhmour district.
This came in a statement he made to reporters during his visit to the place of fire incident that took place in a fuel storage depot in Erbil.
Sofi expressed his regret for the death of a worker as a result of the incident, saying, "We are taking the necessary measures, but citizens must take appropriate precautions."
Regarding setting fire to the Kurdish peasant farms in Makhmur, Erbil governor said, " some of these areas are not included in our powers, and some of them are located in areas where ISIS elements locate, so we can’t send civil defense teams but with caution."
In turn, Sheikh Yadkar, Director General of Civil Defense in Erbil said that the fire in the fuel depot was caused by a spark that flew from the fuel truck.
He added that all places have safety requirements, but these accidents always happen.
