Shafaq News / The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) revealed on Wednesday, "practical" understandings to launch a coordination security plan between the federal forces, Peshmerga and Asaish forces to address the security imbalance in the disputed areas and Khanaqin district of Diyala province, assuring that security the people will be expanded in the district "soon."

Officials and citizens in Khanaqin district, (105 northeast of Diyala) launched through Shafaq News agency, distress calls for the federal government and security authorities to rescue the villages of the district from the most severe "terrorist" attacks since 2003 until now, calling for an urgent treatment of attacks and incidents targeting people and their properties.

In a follow step, an expanded security meeting was held in the governorate on Sunday, May 17, 2010, for security leaders and the local government, and a number of the governorate’s deputies to discuss the repercussions of the deteriorating security and the escalation of attacks in the outskirts of Khanaqin district.

"The meetings and discussions between the Kurdish delegation with Diyala administration and the security ministries resulted in practical agreements, to launch joint security plans between the security forces, Peshmerga and Asayish in the disputed areas, especially Khanaqin district that witnessed a dire security decline during the past periods,” Sherko Muhammad, the deputy of PUK in the province, told Shafaq News Agency.

"We have seen convictions from the administrative authorities and security ministries to involve Peshmerga and Asayish in maintaining security in Khanaqin, eliminating pockets of terrorism and ending tensions that threaten the security of the citizen," he added.

Muhammad stressed that "there is an ideal peaceful coexistence between the components of Khanaqin district and its outskirts," pointing to "the existence of understandings between Diyala governorate and Kurdistan Region in the administration of Khanaqin district over the past years."

MP Sherko Muhammad assured the people of Khanaqin that the district "will witness ideal security stability in the coming periods."

The areas of the outskirts of Khanaqin, (105 km northeast of Baquba), were exposed during the past months to accidents and explosive devices attacks that caused the martyrdom and injury of civilians and security elements, while the specialists attributed the reasons for the attacks to the infiltration of "terrorists" fleeing from other governorates to the outskirts of Khanaqin.

Khanaqin district (145 km of Baghdad) is witnessing a clear jump in the rates of security breaches, which became almost daily after the withdrawal of Peshmerga forces 2017, which are deployed in the region and controlled by security even before their withdrawal in front of the progress of the Iraqi forces.
