Shafaq News / Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), headed by Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani described on Tuesday the assignment of the head of the Federal Government, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi for Ministers in his government to fill positions in vacant ministerial portfolios as a “normal matter,” announcing the party’s intention to start discussions with parliamentary blocs in the parliament to resolve the passage of its candidate for the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
"In all governments of the world, for one reason or another, they have vacant ministries that are administered by proxy, and heads of government assign other ministers to fill the vacant portfolios as they should not be left, as Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has witnessed something like this, which is normal," the party’s political office secretary, Fadel Mirani told reporters today.
Foreign Affairs Ministry is the entitlement of KDP from the sovereign ministries in the federal government, adding that "we will present our candidate for this ministry and before the nomination; we must communicate with the blocs in the Iraqi parliament."
Prime Minister (PM) Mustafa Al-Kadhimi issued bureau orders on Tuesday that entrust current ministers with the duties of vacant portfolios.
Among these orders is to assign the Minister of Education with the missions of the Minister of Justice , the Minister of Finance as the Minister of Oil , the Minister of Youth and Sports as the Minister of Culture , the Minister of Education as the Minister of Trade and the Minister of Transport as the Minister of Immigration and Displacement.
The Iraqi parliament approved a new government on Wednesday after six months without a government. As Two charged with the mission of forming the government before al-Kadhimi, Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi and Adnan al-Zurfi were refused because there was no consensus on them by political forces.
Voting on the Oil and Foreign portfolios was postponed after the parties failed to agree on candidates. The deputies rejected the new Prime Minister's candidates for the Justice, Agriculture and Trade portfolios.
