Shafaq News/ The Iranian “Tasnim” news agency announced on Monday evening, that the imam of Friday prayers in “Jhar Burj Mayandop” city in the West Azerbaijan province and the representative of the Supreme Leader of Iran in it, Sheikh “Ja’far Azerbaijan”, died as a result of being infected with the new Corona virus.

"Jafar Azerbaijan, Friday Imam of Jhar city and the representative of Khamenei, died on Monday evening of being infected with Coruna virus after he had been lying for several days in intensive care," the agency said.

One of the areas contaminated by the emerging coron avirus, the city of "Myndop", located in the south of West Azerbaijan Province, has 71 cases.

Mayandop is the fifth largest city in West Azerbaijan after Shaheen Des, Bukan, Khoy and Takab.

On Monday, Iran recorded 117 deaths and 3186 new cases within 24 hours, according to Health Ministry spokesman Kyanosh Jahanpur.

Jahanpur said the number of deaths had risen to 2,757 and injuries to 41,495.
